Ready to Work

I loved watching this border collie work for her owner as she rounded up sheep smartly and calmly.  I loved seeing her desire, even a need,  to work.  With a little whistle she was going right, left, back and down.

Ireland's Bittersweet

Gorse is an invasive species in Ireland.  A pretty flower but you don't want to try to pick a bouquet of it. Very nasty barbs on it.  This is in front of the Skellig Islands.

Columbus Day 2016

Well I thought that I had to start a new blog as I couldn't access this one, but thanks

to a good friend who is considerably more computer savvy than I, I'm back on and 

ready to share some new paintings.

Remember last fall, one of those gloriously bright days?  

This is my take on it. 

Yesteryear South Road 1934

Back when the Town of Westhampton had only what one would now call 

small trucks to plow, many roads drifted in and those trucks were unable to 

get through those wind-packed roads. 

So, our forefathers took shovel in hand and volunteered to

 open up the roads.  This painting shows who we believe to be Will Fiske, 

Walter Witherill, "Papa" Church, Robert Church, and Mr. Hickey and one unknown.

"Just Saying"

It's hard to get a hard working, handsome man to sit for a

 conversation, never mind to pose for a painting. 

 You just might get a look, such as this one.  Just saying.

A Smile

So, I've been very fortunate to take 2 classes with portrait artist, Paul Leveille.  I can't express how exciting it is to start with a snapshop and then develop a portrait that not only looks like the person but shows that individual's personality.  No names, but I do appreciate this friend sharing his wonderful smile.

Padraig's Flock

So, in the early spring a shepard bring his flock in so that they can be dipped for  ticks and other bugs and probably treated for parasites.  More than most of us want to know about those fuzzy, cute sheep, but necessary  Perhaps they even get shorn at the same time. Then it's out to pasture and all that green lushness for the summer.       11x14 Pastel

I never realized that ram's horns had so many colors in them.  

As with all of nature there are always hidden surprises that

excite and delight ---- if we just take the time to really observe

and absorb.

Looking for the Light

When it's hot in the summer everyone wants to  go to a beach somewhere, anywhere, and 'cool off'.  I want to go to watch waves and the foam patterns they make when they slide up over the worn sand.  I like to seek out the curves under the waves as they're rolling over and allowing some of that summer light to shine through, for a moment.    9x12 Pastel

Lane's Stitch

For my Grandson's Christmas present I painted a picture of his favorite rabbit, Stitch.  This little guy is so sweet and very loved and was fun to paint!

Thoughts of Summer

So what do you do when it's 6 degrees out and the wind is blowing in December or January?  Well, I paint pictures of summer and waves and colorful boats and think of friends, warm days and how blessed I am to have this passion for painting and how fortunate I am to have this life. 

In Memory of Sarah's Guernseys

Sarah had Guernseys when she was a teenager and in 4-H. 
 I always loved their soft eyes and their gentle personality (well most of the time).
